1978 Ducati 900ss Darmah

We collected this Ducati from the customer with instructions to restore the chassis only, as the engine had been re-built only a couple of years previous, he had also renewed the paint work with the intention to do the work himself. He never managed to find the time.

As we stripped the bike we found that it looked worse than it actually was so only the task of sourcing parts would hinder a reasonably fast turnaround for this restoration.

A lot of the chassis parts were in good enough condition to renovate and re-use, although a new swing arm bush kit would make it handle like new once more. So with some powder coating, chrome and zinc plating and of the shelf parts, most of the perished rubber and worn consumable parts are still available, the chassis was complete and be ready for another 30 years of use.

Add the newly painted petrol tank and panels and this Italian classic was complete. After riding it you can understand why the old ”Dukes” have such a following.
